Which of the following is a FALSE statement about typing abbreviations?

a) Many facilities require the translation of abbreviations.

b) It is usually acceptable to expand abbreviations to promote clarity.

c) The abbreviation Ph.D. includes periods as shown here.

d) Periods are used in most upper case abbreviations.Which of the following is a FALSE statement about typing abbreviations?
I think its A. Because...

B) states that ';it is usually acceptable'; - how often would it not be acceptable to expand a word like ';abbr.'; - its hardly illegal.

C) states that ';Ph.D.'; includes periods. Look at some reliable websites, to see that it does include the periods. e.g.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ph.D.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/P鈥?/a>

D) seems to be obvious really. Abbreviations like S.O.S etc are all capitals - I could hardly find any that are solely lowercase (yes, Ph.D. does have one lower case letter in it - but you get the idea!)

So, through a series of deductions I am lead to believe that A) is false. I can't imagine needing a translator for abbreviations. It would be necessary sometimes, but i wouldn't say ';many facilities'; need it.

Good luck. xxWhich of the following is a FALSE statement about typing abbreviations?
