B) connects the cerebellum to the brainstem
C) Is a subconcious somatic and visceral motor control area
D) Relays sensory info to the cerebellum and thalamus
E) All are true
I thought that D was the incorrect answer because the pons relays sensory info to the cerebellum and cerebrum... Am I right?Which Statement is false regarding the pons?
The proper answer is ';E';...all are true
The cerebellum, is a relay of the motor pathway, filtrating and coordinating the ';fine'; movements of the final effectors (muscles) and thus, is part of the connections of the motor cortex and other areas, to the spinal cord.
It also connects the cerebellum with the brain stem (Via the cerebral peduncles)
Its corrective action on the voluntary movements, is completely outside of our control (it is a subconscious non intentional control), because it is not noticed by the normal person, unless the cerebellum has problems such as degeneration, stroke or other kind of damage (difficulty for coordination of the movements, decreased muscular tone in the same side of the affection to the cerebellum, etc..)..
It also receives information from the body (position, temperature, strenght of muscle contraction) by fibers from the brain stem (ascending sensory fibers), before that information reaches the ventromedial nucleus of the thalamus....and the sensory cortex of the brain...
