Falsification of a police report is a misdemeanor crime. First offense

A fine and maybe probation. You shouldn't have lied in the first place, The best thing you can do is go there BEFORE the trail and tell them the truth.

You are the victim,You don't have to press charges against your friend if you don't want to. No victim, no crime.

Could you live with yourself knowing that the truth could have saved your friend from serving 5 years in prison and having a criminal record

that will follow him around for the rest of his life?

The old quote'; And the truth shall set you free '; is just as true today as it was then. Go forward and do the right thing and help your friend.

I hope this has helped you and I wish you well.Charge for giving false police statement?
The defense will not care as its thier job to clear his name and by tellign the truth you would be doing this. Its the court that will have a problem. If you lied on the stand its called purgery. If you were not under oath you can still get in a little bit of trouble for filing a false complaint. There are 2 things you must do. First you must talk to a lawyer. Second you must find out from that lawyer how to clear your friend(you are morally obligated) while avoiding trouble yourself. Its definitely possible to reach a plea agreement that will let you slide if you clear his/her name. BUt again you must talk to a lawyer. If you do not at the very least simply admit you lied because you were mad. At worst you will get a slap on the wrist. Which is better than throwing a friend in jail for 5 years for no good reason, giving him a criminal record and having him on probation for years. Fix it now before it blows up, because if you dont things will only get worse.
All kinds of things can possibly happen...there's no real way to tell for sure, but you SHOULD tell the truth anyway because otherwise someone you call a friend is about to receive a conviction on an assault charge that will affect their ';employability'; for life. Do the right thing.
if you lied you will have to drop the charges and hope they do not press charges against you. and if you drop the charges you will still have to pay lawyer and court cost.and the court may hit you with a fine .you need to talk to your attorney before you go to court.
Well you obviously shouldn't have done it but by you asking this question I guess you know that... There is a chance you could be charged with perverting the course of justice but just think how bad you will feel if your friend gets prison time.
if you lie under oath, you're screwed. you can say you lied to the police under oath because then you aren't lying anymore
AAAWWW, no you didn't! You are in trouble! I would not wanna have a friend like you.
That is a bit pathetic!

5YEARS! :o, wth ^o)
