So you see it is not that they are wise because they are old but that they are old because they are wise.People always say that when people grow older they become more wiser, well that's a false statement, because
I agree you can find dumb people doing dumb things at any age. And some people would never be wise, even if they lived 1,000 years. There is no necessary connection between age and wisdom.

The idea that with age comes wisdom is best seen as a general rule of thumb. Older people have been through more (usually) and usually have made more mistakes from which they can learn.

Of course, in our society this is usually only true to an extent and often only true of general life situations that do not really change over the generations. In societies which are more socially and technologically static, the wisdom of the elders counts for much more. In our society, the elderly are often the least able to adapt and function because so much new technology has emerged which they are unfamiliar with and the social environment is changing to, so that social arrangements they knew when they were young are being replaced. This isn't to say that their advice here is worthless - many things about human life haven't changed - but the usefulness of their advice is diminished compared to less rapidly changing societies.

I think you have to be taught how to be wise too. It is not something that occurs naturally with time. The best way to start on the path to wisdom is to start taking some philosophy classes. :)
It would be completely misanthropic to even suggest that we do not become more wise as we grow older. Unless we are completely sheltered from everything and do the exact same routine every single day (which is close to impossible) we are confronted by challenges. Whether we choose to accept them or not, we still learn very much about the world and our selves, making us wiser (Obviously, if we do accept the challenge, we will learn more. Further, a higher degree of learning can be achieved if some of our attempts fail).

It would be much more fitting to claim that we do not automatically reach a high degree of intelligence or that we do not get exceptionally wise at a certain age. Refusing to believe that even the most brainless person will become wiser with age makes you seem like a completely misanthropic person.
I think it is assumed that wisdom is the natural consequence of 'growing' older. The sad truth is that most humans cling to preconceived notions about the world and their place in it. Perhaps real wisdom is simply the ability to accept - gracefully - that one cannot know all that there is to know; And, discovering this truth of existence, to have the humility to accept this without fear.
I agree.

Wisdom is learning the proper way to use your knowledge. As people grow older, they certainly gain more knowledge through experience, but many people never figure out how to use any of the knowledge they have gained, so remain juvenile and foolish despite the fact that they have access to wisdom if they chose to.
Saying that we get wiser with age is a very general statement, and I don't agree with it in that sense. But as we age, we do become more experienced in life, which to some people I suppose could be viewed as wise-ness.

=)
yeah i agree becuz u can be dumb when u are old. i guess it depends on their life experiences. and yeah most people do forget cuz i see a lot of old people that start forgetting all most everything so yeah i argee.
A wise person sees through the game easily and guess other persons intentions. In any given given situation his decision will be much more sound than a young man. So older people will bw more wise.
The longer you are here the more you learn about the things around you.If it wasn't true then why do us adults teach the children what we've already learned and experienced in our lives growing up.
most people cant help but learn from experience so the longer you life the more things you see do hear etc cant help that some knowledge rubs off on you
some get wiser with experience

some just 4 get everything
I agree.

There are just too many old people trying to re-live their ';Glory Days';
