Can you go to jail for writing a false statement about abuse?

Can you go to jail for writing a false statement at the scene, for an agrivated assaultCan you go to jail for writing a false statement about abuse?
Let me guess, this was a domestic violence arrest. You are now wanting to withdraw the statement because you don't want your boyfriend to go to jail. This happens quite frequently. In fact, states now pursue domestic violence charges even if the victim declines because this happens so often.

Studies show lying takes thought, but the truth comes easy. Because of this, any statement made while you are in an emotional state will be given more credibility.

You will not be going to jail, you will be considered a victim of domestic violence. Can you go to jail for writing a false statement about abuse?
You may be fined and can be imprisoned for up to 5 years. If it is related to sexual abuse, then you can be imprisoned for up to 8 years. However, if you withdrew or corrected your statement, then you would likely only be fined.

I don't have great knowledge of the American legal system, as I'm Australian. However, this is my understanding.
The ';false statement'; should be sufficient to explain that you could go to jail. Giving false information to the police is a crime. If it wasn't, what would keep people from filing bogus police reports everytime someone angered us.

That clerk at Target, looked at me cross, so I'll file a police report. Or my boss yelled at me, so I will make a false statement that he hit me.
YES, and you should!!! Too many false reports take away from really serious situations. ;-(
Absolutely!, you can be arrested, it is a crime.
Yes.

You can and should.
